Headquarters Roof Project

The old original section of the headquarters needed a new roof, it had leaked for some time, so we thought trusses need replacing and all of the corrugated metal… There was also some plaster repair and painting inside because of the leaks. The salt air is very hard on the corrugated metal roof and even though it is maintained and painted, the harsh weather does eat it away. After all these years it had become a “bucket parade” during a heavy rain. We needed to remove the rotten trusses and replace the main roof.

Taking into consideration that summer is the rainy season, all of the materials needed to be purchased and in place for the roof project, trusses built and everything ready to go before the old roof was pulled—otherwise we create even more damage than the leaks have already.

There was some good news. On close inspection of the roof, the trusses were in good shape—they are BIG wood and have endured the leaking. The 1 x 4’s (that the corrugated metal sheets are nailed to) needed to be replaced and the trusses reinforced wherever it appeared necessary. This is much better than having to replace all of them.

The roof surface is quite large and required two rows of 30 roof panels on one side and 3 rows of 30 (porch that serves as clinic waiting room) on the other side plus 8 down the middle to finish. A total of 158.

We received, had met and gotten matching funds offers. The roof project funds now totaled the final cost estimate of $19,000+. This figure needed to be adjusted as we learned current prices in Haiti for the building materials.

The old sheet metal of the roof was off, the 1” x 4” boards were replaced that needed to be, and the new roof in place in two days on this trip.

It was a very hot job in the tropical sun, but the crew was determined to get it done. The “finishing touches” of working on the areas where this roof connects to the clinic portion of the building to prevent future leaks and any other parts of the project were completed and we were dry again.

Thank You!

We really appreciate all who gave over and above their normal giving to this Lord’s work to make this roofing project a reality. It is truly a blessing to “discover” that we got it done before any major damages were done to the headquarters interior or trusses.
