September 2007 Newsletter
Christmas in August….The fundraiser was great, the people greater. I was in Indiana with my sister and her broken arm. We didn’t know whether she would be released to come with me until Wednesday—we got here on Thursday before the fundraiser on Monday night. We have the greatest contributors and support group ever, we are so very blessed. The food, the door prizes, the volunteers to serve and help clean up, the auctioneers and their helpers, the list goes on and on but it totaled a great Christmas for the kids in Haiti! Also got some great gifts for the children for Christmas.
We didn’t have as many people at the fundraiser as last year but it still came out ok. The number are still coming in but as of right now there is $1700 from dinner tickets, $2,905 from contributions for toys and shipping and $3,535 from the auction making a total of $8,140. THANK YOU! Personal Note…. ![]()
Food ProgramThe Haitians say that the months of July and August are always the hardest and the months that they are hungry the most. Those months are harder because schools are close, kids seems to eat more and in August you have to find money not only for food but for tuitions for school that is opening up in September. Thanks to Feed My Starving Children, who as okayed another container of food packets, we can help out some of the families in Haiti. I say some because we can’t afford to feed all of Cap-Haitian. When the food comes in the Haitians would like for us to pass it all out in one day. But if we do that what about tomorrow, when they come back to ask for food what will we give them then? They don’t understand that because Haitians never think of tomorrow, only think of today. ![]()
BeansAs you might remembered from previous newsletters that our beans were almost finish, well now they are finished. Now our problem is that our supplier can’t find any black bean splits. We don’t want to give out rice only, because there is not vitamins in that. So, since the food packets are full of vitamins, we don’t want to run out of them. So for now we are giving out more food packets than rice. ![]()
FormulaLast month was babies month. Time to look at all the babies that were on the milk program and see how they were progressing. It was also time to change some of them and put on new ones. We saw from toddlers to new born babies and babies of all sizes. I had chosen all the babies that we could take for the milk program for a review in six months, a couple of days later in came this lady with a baby I just could not have rejected her. She told us that the mother was her 13 years old daughter. The daughter could not come because she had c-section and she is not healed yet. That baby was so small for the age that she said he was, that I had to put him on the food program. That was one extra person over what we had allocated. I did see the mother of the baby after a while. She had no breast, let alone breast milk. ![]()
House ConstructionThe house is finished and the family is very grateful and wanted me to thank all the people that made it possible thank you very much and God Bless all of you. ![]()
Pilgrim House….There are so many families to pick from to build a house for that it’s hard to pick. But we always like to pick families where grandmas are involve. The family that I picked this time is a three generation family. They have been living with friends and the friends now think they are too much and can no longer have them at their house anymore. They came to For Haiti with Love for help. They are: Grandma– Marjorie (she doesn’t know her age. Mother– Mary-48 and the kids; Victoria-8, Sofia-16 Dee-14, Paul-18 and Madje-10. I know that the kids are little older than we usually have them but they were in need because there is no father in the picture and also we don’t want to build on Beck mountain, it would only encourage the local people to cut down more trees since Mr. Beck passed away and no one is protecting the land any more. I’m sorry that you don’t get any pictures with this newsletter, I lost my scandisk (again) that had all the Haiti pictures on. Guess I should follow Eva’s request and transfer them to a CD that is easier to keep track of. ![]()
HaitiEvery one wants to know “how is Haiti.” They don’t hear much in the news and would like to know how Haiti is doing. I’ve told you about For Haiti with Love so now here is an update on the country. Hurricane Dean didn’t do a lot of damage. Up in the north they only had a thunderstorm. Since they are not many trees left they also had a lot of mud slides. For the country itself, just when you think everything was going smooth something bad happens again. The killings and kidnappings have started again and a lot of the people are coming into Cap to hide. The police officers are working very hard to stop the violence. There is money that came in to fix the roads. Let’s just pray that one day Haiti will be better. Pray for Haiti, For Haiti with Love and the person that needs your prayers the most is Eva. Pray for her to be patient and give her strength to do everything that she has to do. Thank you and God Bless! ![]()
