Christmas in Haiti…

Little did we realize those oh so many years ago when we were renting the old green house on the hill and decided to have a little party for the sponsored children that 20 years later it would be “tradition” and the social event for the poor of Cap Haitien.

Roseline reports that children were already coming to the gate to ask about “tickets” for the Christmas party this year.

It is, however, traditional to wait until a day or two before to start handing out invitations. If we don’t, someone will figure out how to duplicate them and we will have too many there for the number of gifts and the food.

It is an exciting time when we focus more on the food—spiritual and for their tummies. We have a church and synagogue here who make certain we have plenty of chocolate chip and also homemade oatmeal cookies; others for months have been providing gifts or funding for gifts and the “Christmas in August” provides the cargo money to get everything to Haiti by plane and by containers on a ship.

All shipments are either there or on their way. The chicken and rice will be purchased in Haiti and the cooking begins around 2 or 3 in the morning over charcoal fires. The girls always make a party out of the preparations and though food isn’t served until around 11, people will be mingling outside the gate before 8 a.m. (some stay the night) in anticipation of singing, praising, getting lots to eat and a brand new toy. The sparkle in the eyes of the boys is a wonder to behold as they get a brand new soccer ball and pump. The girls cradle their dolls and moms select jewelry and get fabric for sewing, hygiene kits and layettes for their new babies. School age children will get book bags and school supplies. The little boys will have their match box cars and everyone will share in a variety of other gifts donated by contributors.

We will have coloring books with Christmas songs in the back in Creole for the adults and pictures to color that tell the Christmas story in Creole for all.

By 3 or 4 in the afternoon the efficient crew will have all cleaned up, trash out and the place will sparkle and you won’t even know there had been a party. After this many years, each knows what needs doing and it works “like a well oiled machine,” that was Don’s quote the last time he was there and just observing because he will too ill to participate… so say a prayer or two in Don’s memory that all does go smoothly and this it truly turns out to be a “Happy Birthday” to the Glory of God.

The goal is to hand out invitations to children who have never been there before so they can experience a day perhaps like none other in their little lives.

There will be a few things go with Roseline November 27 and the cookies and last minute things along with medical supplies will leave Florida headquarters 12/16 for the last shipment in. Merry Christmas, Haiti.

New Fundraiser…

There is a new search engine (powered by Yahoo, Goodsearch.com and in order to try to get people to try it out, they offer a penny per search to the charity of your choice. So you sign on to http://www.Goodsearch.com and before you do your search, you type in the name of the charity. I typed in For Haiti and the rest of the name filled in with the location Palm Harbor. They will throw off the charity if they think the people are searching for the sake of generating the income and not really using it as a search engine. But try it out and pass the word to your readers - maybe a link to the site on your web site - the advantage to this is that one has to buy anything or register in order to use this service.

NEW PLANS for 2008

We have started speaking engagements again as I have told you and we will be working on a CD that we can send to churches along with brochures who are too far away for me to go, so they can learn more about the program and create fundraising projects to help with this Lord’s work.

There are other changes in the works which we will tell you about as they start developing. Guess this is the time to break out and let For Haiti with Love become all that Don dreamed it could be. We will be doing applications for grants—so if any of you have the expertise or ideas along those lines we welcome your input or your help. We are ready now, are you?

We will be developing the food program with a more sophisticated approach so that we are able to feed more people and Feed My Starving Children has been so generous with their contributions. We also have news that Kids Against Hunger are also going to be focusing on Haiti and perhaps will consider For Haiti with Love in their Haiti expansion plans.

We want more people involved both in Haiti and the U.S. To that goal we hope to have materials available to help you raise money to help For Haiti with Love, inc.

Toward that goal we will be re-establish the headquarters in Cap Haitien and plan to invite teams again, so doctors and dentists: take a look at your calendars for 2008 and let us know when you might like to go. Our headquarters has 3 bedrooms w/bathrooms, so we can accommodate teams of up to 6 members without using the hotel.

We anticipate 2008 to be a very good year of service to the Haitian people and need all of the support and prayers you can offer to make it a reality.

For All My Friends at Christmastime

For all my friends at Christmastime
I breathe a loving prayer
That you will always be within
The circle of His care.
And that these blessed days will bring
Some hours of sweet release
From outward stress, while honoring
Anew, the Prince of Peace.

I pray you'll find sweet fellowship
With those you hold most dear.
And as you celebrate His birth
You’ll find Him very near.

If memories of other days
Should quietly steal in,
Let not another see that tear
Their happiness to dim.

And may He give you inward strength
To face this coming year
With joyfulness, and upward look,
With courage, not with fear;
Remembering the angels’ song
O’er this dark world still rings
With “Peace of Earth”… It may be soon
We’ll crown Him “King of Kings” !
