October 2007 Newsletter
AutumnAutumn is a beautiful or sad time of the year, depending on how you focus. If you look at the beauty of the changing leaves and the variety of colors painting the landscape, enjoy the cooler days and crisp mornings, it is a great time of the year. There are those who simply look at the summer as dying and they are sad. Let us help them focus on beauty this year so they can enjoy the changes of nature and through the winter look forward to the re-birth after a winter’s rest. Life is choices, let us choose joy. There are sad things in all of our lives, but choose to remember and focus on positive. It is more difficult some times than others, but with practice…. I think of God’s promise that “this too shall pass.” Now as my golden years approach I realize that it is the good as well as the bad, so we much cherish and enjoy the good in our lives because everything is constantly changing, nothing remains the same for very long. ![]()
NEW…We now have PayPal for secure giving online. This will be better because your credit card billings will now reflect “For Haiti with Love” which will be less confusing and you have the security of knowing the processor. Even though we did it for convenience, it was a pleasant surprise to discover it is also saving contribution money. Paypal allows us to take Master Card, Visa, American Express, Discover Card as well as transfers from Paypal accounts. You don't need a Paypal Account to use it although you can sign up for one at the same time if you so choose. I haven’t tried it myself, but others tell me it is really easy to use and from our end it is very simple to withdraw by transferring straight to our checking account for the mission work. Hope you like this new feature of our web site: ![]() Your Tax deductible contribution is needed--Today!!!

FAVOR?After Don’s death I vowed to start writing a book on the history of Don and his love and devotion for God and serving to help the poor of Haiti. I find myself constantly quoting him—just as I did when he was here with us. There are a lot of you out there who have gone on one or more trips to Haiti with Don. I would ask you to take a quiet time and jot down some of your memories that I can include in the book. If you have favorite photos that would be a great addition. Check your old Passports and jot down the trip dates to help with the accuracy and then we will research records to add to those and come up with things about trips where we don’t hear from the folks who went. We can make this a truly memorable, fun project to Don’s honor and God’s Glory. ![]()
SPEAKING…I truly don’t think I could have done it before, but September 10th at the Northwood Presbyterian Church in Clearwater was my first invitation to share the mission work since Don’s departing. I pray I am ready and that this will be the beginning of the local ministry to churches and groups again. I thank God for the time I have been given to start healing before trying this again. When I asked what they wanted to hear it was simply, “well, tell us what is happening, what you are doing and why we should continue to support you.” I replied, “I think I can handle that.” The next will be Church Women United in Tampa on 10/5.

He is 2-3 months old, but was born C-section at 7 months. Now he is a part of For Haiti with Love’s formula program. Keep him in your prayers and we will strive to keep you updated. When Roseline first took his picture it hit her just how small he was, so she went for the peroxide bottle to show you the comparison… ![]()
This is the “matching funds” home that was built in Don’s Memory this summer. In keeping with our pledge not to encourage the cutting of trees on the mountain around the headquarters, this home was built in downtown Cap Haitien. The family has a special window they want, so they just stacked block in the space until they get their own special window. Also the families normally put on the stucco and paint the homes the colors they want. Materials are being purchased for the next Pilgrim House and we will keep you advised of the progress on that as we go along. ![]()
For those of you who follow the newsletter you will recall the infant photos of these twins. I asked Roseline to get me some of the “after” shots of the children on the formula program to give an idea of their progress. As you can see here, these two are happy campers! One of those times when I kind of wish we could give you these newsletters in color—but for the stewardship of the contributions we will ask you to take a look at them on the internet if you want to see them larger and in color. They are sitting on an old car seat that the staff uses just inside the front gate. Behind them in the boxes are the food packets ready for distribution to the hungry on “food day.” The food is prepared for distribution one day and distributed the next. In keeping with our policy to promote dignity, the designated family member comes for a week’s supply of food that they prepare and eat as a family at home. ![]()
The gift of formula has arrived and is in dry storage at the headquarters. This will be rationed out to cover needs over the next year until the next gift arrives. These are larger cans this year, but NOT lactose free as the gift was last year, so it will create some problems for some of the babies who are lactose intolerant. We have a limited supply of rehydration fluids which we will use initially and look for which is the better way of dealing with this issue for the upcoming year. ![]()
PENDING…Pending shipment include 38 pallets more of the food packets which should arrive shortly. This container also has two pallets of the Christmas supplies for the party on 12/25. There should be another container of beans in Ft. Lauderdale waiting for the ship to Cap Haitien along with two more pallets of Christmas items which will go down on a space-available basis. ![]()
PRAYER REQUESTS…We continue to be treading water. It is one of those exciting, challenging times when God is providing the needs of the ministry with nothing to spare… Cargo funding is important to get these gifts to the people of Haiti in Cap and to the headquarters where they can reach those in need. Funding is also the issue for supplies for the burn patients as well as the bags for food distribution. We ask your prayers also for Roseline. She is very young and this is a VERY big job with a lot of demands. We ask that you pray for the staff that they always remember they are there to serve. And in turn we offer prayers of thanksgiving for all of you making all of this possible! God Bless you all. ![]()
